Week 7 Ideas

For homework I tried to do a user Timeline of the journey through the media I was thinking of doing for the project.

Concepts 1

-An App: I was thinking of one that monitors your sleep and is personal to you. More like a sleep companion. Have a character built in the app as a sleep companion. Maybe track noises such as snoring or sleep talking during the night. Or a voice that reads out your lecture notes and makes you fall asleep.

Why?:I think there needs to be a way to maintain habits of sleep to be able to value it. Just need to figure out a way to make people stick to a schedule and use the app.

-A book (Glow in the dark-not sure how to do this but could be interesting) : was thinking of maybe having stories related to sleep or maybe patterns or illusions that make you calm or fall asleep.

Why?: reading makes me sleepy and studies show that it does generally make people sleepy

App Examples

Other Notes from Research

pulsing blue light wave

thoughts/worries, night time sleep schedule, lifestyle, your bedroom

log onto website, session to help overcome sleep problems, provide toolkit, access to community, graduates of program, step by step/week by week

Music also reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Wind down. Your body needs time to shift into sleep mode, so spend the last hour before bed doing a calming activity such as reading. For some people, using an electronic device such as a laptop can make it hard to fall asleep, because the particular type of light emanating from the screens of these devices is activating to the brain. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid electronics before bed or in the middle of the night.

Use bright light to help manage your circadian rhythms. Avoid bright light in the evening and expose yourself to sunlight in the morning. This will keep your circadian rhythms in check.

Evaluate your room. Design your sleep environment to establish the conditions you need for sleep. Your bedroom should be cool – between 60 and 67 degrees. Your bedroom should also be free from any noise that can disturb your sleep. Finally, your bedroom should be free from any light. Check your room for noises or other distractions. This includes a bed partner's sleep disruptions such as snoring. Consider using blackout curtains, eye shades, ear plugs, "white noise" machines, humidifiers, fans and other devices.

Concept 2

I tried to think in terms of the user experience/journey

For this concept the scenario was:
The student wants to improve their concentration.

Idea:
They go into the booth and there will be a screen where they do a quiz on sleep to see what they need to sleep better. The booth would be lit. The other Idea I had for the booth was like a tent with pillows and maybe the touch screen is on the floor. The idea of the tent is to create a relaxing atmosphere for sleep.

Media: I was thinking of maybe incorporating both the theme of the posters which is "trouble in slumberland" and with this the characters from the posters appear on the screen in the app. After the person does the quiz they can either download to phone or email the site details to their email.

Concept 3

For this concept the scenario was:
After a long day at school the student waits at the bus stop and sees the poster.

Idea:
The poster is used to inform them of sleep and then there is the added bonus of being able to download an app that will help you sleep better. Since buses are a common transport in wellington they would be seen by all types of people.

I was thinking of making it maybe specific to each poster in the series. So "the dreadful drinker" will come up with the app that helps monitor caffeine consumption/energy drink consumption?

Media:
The media will be a large poster for the adshell and an app that can be downloaded from the adshell. The app could also use some of the themes from the "trouble in slumberland posters" to keep with the theme.

App Components:
-Focus on techniques to sleep?: e.g. Relax (image imagination), Attention training.
-Sleep Diary?
-Sync to health kit on phone?

-Thoughts, schedule, lifestyle, bedroom.

Our Idea with the posters is to have a series that show the different aspects of sleep but also have a parody type feel to them. Something familliar but in a different context.

Was thinking maybe for the topic of Sleep
Posters= motivation
App=maintain

Note:
-Over the course of the week I'll draft up some more app ideas.
-You could probably could continue to draft up some more poster ideas
or
-other ideas for other media you might want to do.
